| Onyx is formed by quartz crystals fused together by heat and pressure from cold mineral springs. This fusion of crystals gives Onyx an elegant layered appearance and colorful movement. Onyx can be translucent and ranges in color from ivory to green and red. Due to the soft nature of Onyx, it is recommended for light duty applications such as fireplace surrounds and is often backlit for a dramatic effect.
